Our national website provides general information about joining the Civil Air Patrol. The Rutland Composite Squadron welcomes both young people (age 12 through 18) and adults (age 18 and above) who wish to serve their country and community, learn new skills, and make new friends. All new members join a squadron like ours (or sometimes a smaller unit called a flight, but we don't have those in Vermont).
The best way to join is to come to a weekly meeting. We have a weekly meeting almost every Thursday evening at 6:00 PM at our Emergency Response Center at the Rutland - Southern Vermont Regional Airport. Our street address is 1002 Airport Road, North Clarendon, Vermont. When you get to the airport parking lot, look for the tall pole with the green and white rotating lights at the top; we're the building closest to that. Call one of the contacts on our contacts box to make sure we're meeting the evening you have in mind.
We'll show you around, answer questions, and you'll get to see what a regular meeting is like, and what kind of people are here. A parent or responsible adult should accompany younger folks, and a parent or guardian's permission will be needed for those under 18 to join.
